replacing carpeting - Landlord Forum thread 355238

replacing carpeting by Anonymous on November 30, 2017 @20:00

I am about to purchase a rental property and one of the unit's carpeting is horrid... held together with duct tape. I want to replace it but the tenant has SO MUCH furniture and stuff in there. Does the installer move the furniture? How do I do this? I guess some of it could be moved outside on a nice day.

Are you the same anon that has posted 3 questions in 15 minutes ? Anyhow, on this Q, why do you want to replace the carpeting while a T is still living there? Unless the T has requested it, you should wait till the T has moved out. If the T has requested it, then THEY should move all the "stuff", so if they break something, you or the installer will not be held responsible. Yes, the installer probably has insurance, but if they have to move much "stuff", they will charge you, the LL, for the extra time it takes to move the "stuff" ( and they have to have "SOMEWHERE" to put it, before they can move it.) As thousands of LLs have found out thru years of experience, it's always faster, cheaper, easier, to do major remodeling when a place is vacant. Besides, you have just seen how this T lives. Do you really want to replace the carpeting now, knowing what it will look like in a years time with this current T in place.?
