First time evictor question - Landlord Forum thread 354231

First time evictor question by Anthony (Pennsylvania) on September 14, 2017 @08:20

long story short : we moved out of my old house into a new house, my fiancées sickly father moved into my old house with hisjcare taker..there was never a lease cause it's family. He took a turn for the worse and had to be put into a care home. The caretaker said they would like to take over the bills and such. I said "ok". Still no lease, kinda just a verbal monthly thing, they have stopped paying and I need to evict them. I was going to just do the "notice of non-renewal" and just eat the loss of rent. Everything I read says "hire an attorney...it's a tricky process".....is it really? I was hoping to not sink a ton of money into the eviction process as I flat out don't have it to spend. Heelllpppp

Also, I'm aware I'm not Landlord material. This was a very big mistake and I plan on selling the house asap.

Who are "They"? You start with a sickly father and caretaker and then it's "Them and They"?

"there was never a lease cause it's family"..."Still no lease, kinda just a verbal monthly thing"

Well, you have a month to month rental agreement. You will probably have to file an eviction to have "Them" removed. That means hiring an attorney to do it since you have no experience in evictions.
Eviction by KF (PA) on September 14, 2017 @16:39 [ Reply ]
It's not terribly tricky, but giving them a notice of non-renewal does not guarantee that they will move. You will want to file for eviction the day after the notice expires if they aren't out.
